I might be blind or misunderstanding something, so I’ll just ask the “dumb” question:
I’m used to having device type dashboards, where I can create dashboards and they are then automatically applied to all devices of the same type.
Don’t I have the same capability for assets (digital twin assets)? So if I create 5 assets of the same type, and assign the proper devices to them, that I can then immediately have the dashboards I create for each asset type applied to all assets?
Hi Christoph,
Yes — the equivalent concept is an asset-type dashboard. You create a dashboard for an asset type rather than configuring a separate dashboard for each individual asset. The capability already exists, but it is not enabled by default. We plan to enable it by default within the next few weeks.
Until then, you can enable it in your tenant through the branding settings:
- Open the Administration application.
- Go to Settings > Branding.
- Open the branding you are using (for example, default).
- Switch to the Advanced branding tab.
- Add
"hideTypeDashboardForAssets": false, to the JSON.
- Save your changes.
One important distinction, though, is that assigning devices to five assets does not, by itself, mean that the widgets will automatically find the corresponding device data for each asset. The relevant data must be available in the asset’s context.
This is where DTM Data Service (Data on Assets) can help. It propagates measurements from devices to the corresponding assets based on the mappings defined in DTM, making the data available directly on the asset itself: DTM Data Points documentation.
Once the required data is available on the asset, the same asset-type dashboard can be reused across all assets of that type, with the widgets resolving the data in the context of the respective asset.
Awesome! Thanks for the information.
