# Offloading data

Cumulocity IoT v 10.15 offloading data

#### _Detailed explanation of the problem:_

I am setting up an offloading job to offload a specific type of event. I am curious if that offload removes that data or if the data stays in the MongoDB until data retention rules kick in. I _think_ that an offload will not remove the data but want to be sure before I turn it on in case I’m not doing something right and wind up wiping out production data

Hi @david.presuhn

offloading data doesn’t include data removal in Cumulocity. It will just offload data to the configured data lake.  
The data retention rules configured in your tenant will take care of data removal.
