In my opinion, one of the most exciting developments in the smart home world right now is the rise of the Matter protocol. Until now, one of the biggest issues with smart lighting, switches, and devices was that every brand had its own closed ecosystem — like Kasa, Tapo, Philips Hue, or SmartThings — which made it annoying to mix and match devices from different brands.
Matter finally solves this by creating a universal standard so that smart lights, switches, plugs, and sensors from different brands can work together smoothly. It means more freedom to choose the best product for each part of your home, without being locked into one company’s ecosystem.
I think in the next few years, Matter will make smart homes way more accessible, reliable, and user-friendly. I’m really excited to see how brands adopt it and how it changes the way we build smart lighting and smart home setups!
Actually my personal opinion on matter is that it was quite a hype with a lot of expectations in the smart home area which it was unable to fullfil. There are multiple reasons for that.

Me also having a smart home with tons of devices, I rely on (open-source) platforms like Home Assistant or ioBroker for smart homes in consumer area.
With the power of integrations & community, it doesn’t “matter” if the protcol used is ZigBee, Thread, WIFI, KNX, Modbus or Matter.
Btw. same approach of Cumulocity but for Enterprises.
So when I buy a new device, I don’t check it is supporting Matter, but if it could be easily integrated to Home Assistant
This is still underrated of the device manufacturers doing promotions with Matter (“Supports Matter”), but less with open-source platforms like Home Assistant (e.g. “Works with Home Assistant”).
