On September 21st and 22nd 2026, we hosted our annual Cumulocity AIoT Hackathon, and it was a blast!
For the first time ever, the Hackathon took place in our own Cumulocity office in Leipzig. The interest was overwhelming: we received more than 60 registrations, but space was limited to 40 seats (experts included).
Thank you to everyone who signed up, and we hope to see those who missed out next time!
The Facts
33 hackers formed 8 teams and built and pitched 8 solutions.
The mix of participants was fantastic. Customers and partners such as SAP, WIKA, Phoenix Contact, Schwarz Produktion, August Storm, Henkel, Edwards Vacuum, Telekom IoT, Kunbus, TURCK and mfr joined us, along with students from several German universities. Together they formed mixed teams and tackled some seriously challenging tasks over 1.5 days.
The Challenges
AI and agentic AI are everywhere, so this year we went all in with three AI-focused challenges:
AIoT Solutions: Use our AI-enabled platform to build end-to-end solutions, prototypes, or demos. Owned by @Daniel_Primm1 and @Stefan_Witschel
AI Tools: Build components and tools that extend the AI capabilities of our platform, such as skills, MCP servers, management tools, microservices, UI plugins, or even full agents, and show them off in a live demo. Owned by @Jan_Hommes
AI Puzzle: Solve predefined, complex problems with the provided toolset, using Cumulocity and AI. Owned by @Nikolaus_Neuerburg
Let’s Get Hacking!
Day 1 kicked off with a networking lunch, a chance to get to know the venue, settle in, and meet the other participants. Some used the time to browse the ideas and challenges pinned to the walls and laid out on tables, while others were already busy recruiting teammates for the ideas they had brought along.
After a short introduction, ideation began and teams came together quickly. Then the real fun started: discussing how to implement each solution, splitting up the tasks, and identifying gaps in knowledge or tooling. Once the plan was clear, it was time to start hacking!
By the afternoon, the teams had already made impressive progress. At dinnertime, a food truck rolled up serving burgers and hot dogs to fuel the hungry hackers. After a short break, many teams headed straight back to their desks, and the doors didn’t close until 9 PM.
Day 2 went straight into another hacking session. With the clock ticking, teams pushed to finish everything they had planned, while also polishing the “perfect” pitch. After all, each team had just 10 minutes to present what they had achieved in 1.5 days.
And the Winner Is…
Every team was hoping to take home the title. Here are this year’s nominees:
- Team MioMio – mfr Cumulocity AI Integration
Connecting mfr’s AI assistant “Lisa” with Cumulocity in both directions, so service management requests can be created from Cumulocity and more detailed device data can be fetched from mfr.
- Team Rattles – AI-Supported Report Generation
Using an AI agent to quickly generate HTML reports in Cumulocity that would otherwise take a lot of manual effort.
- Team Done! – One Prompt, One PoC!
Building almost any use case end to end, from device onboarding and configuration all the way to a dashboard, with a single prompt.
- Team Trust Me, I’m an Agent – SAP Joule Meets Cumulocity
Integrating SAP Joule and Cumulocity in both directions in multiple ways, including an LLM proxy and a Joule MCP server.
- Team Byte Me! – Text-to-Edge Function Service
A sandboxed runtime, delivered as a microservice, that deploys, executes, and visualizes the output of AI-generated function services from a single prompt.
- Team c8y_brAIn – Memory for AI Agent Manager
Building a memory for the AI Agent Manager so that specific decisions and outputs can be stored, retrieved, and updated, demonstrated with “branding” and “data” memories.
- Team Two-Day Orange – MCP Server Debugger for Faulty Devices
A specialized MCP server that detects potential issues in device data and digs for the real root cause.
- Team Boulder Buddies – Artifact Store for Cumulocity Agents
Enabling agents to create artifacts and reports, store them in Cumulocity, and share them with other users.
Every team delivered a strong pitch, followed by a lively Q&A with the audience.
After much deliberation, the jury of challenge owners and experts settled on the final leaderboard:
Winner: Team Trust Me, I’m an Agent
2nd Place: Team Two-Day Orange
3rd Place: Team Rattles
A huge congratulations to the winners and to everyone who took part!
Tackling hands-on challenges, experimenting with new tools, and collaborating with new faces made everyone a winner. It was an honor for Cumulocity to host such a talented group that was so eager to share knowledge.
The countdown to the next one has already begun! ![]()
Want the Details?
Curious about what each team built? Over the coming weeks, we’ll publish a short article for every team, taking a closer look at their solution. Stay tuned!
